When the board of the Archuleta County Fair needed an audio company at the last minute to do sound at their 2021 event, Jorgenson Music was available to step in due to our long-time standing music festival, Rhythms On The Rio in South Fork, Colorado, being cancelled due to Covid. The fair logistics involved audio in both the main tent where daytime acts took place and nighttime bands played, as well as in an auxiliary covered arena where 4-H youth presented their livestock to be judged and live auctions took place.
As audio production specialists, Jorgenson Music was proud to bring our years of large-event production expertise to one of our favorite community events in Pagosa Springs.

The audio setup for the stage in the main tent at the Archuleta County Fair. The boxes at the front of the stage are monitors that the performers use to hear themselves. Without proper sound on stage, a guitarist or singer can’t hear what they’re doing, which makes it difficult to put on a good show.

Jorgenson Music uses a digital sound board for live acts and an industry-standard “festival patch” for quickly wiring instrument and microphone inputs.

Audio was also needed for the events occurring in the adjacent Hughes Pavilion, a large metal-roofed arena with open sides. The 4-H kids showing their animals, as well as the judges giving feedback, needed wireless mics that were used in front of the speakers, which often causes feedback problems. Jorgenson Music provides audio techs to ensure the sound is consistent and audible to the large crowds that gather in the noisy venue.
Another unique obstacle at the Hughes Pavilion is the fact that the venue is full of animals and sawdust that generate lots of dust and hair, which is not ideal for sensitive electrical equipment.

Because of the immense amounts of dust generated in Hughes Pavilion, sensitive digital electronics are prone to problems so we use one of our analog boards. The older equipment still does it’s job feeding sound to different speakers in the venue!

This is the sound board on day two of the County Fair, covered with dust and grime. We do our best to protect the inner electronic parts and the unit is vacuumed and well-cleaned after the event.
One of the requirements for audio in Hughes Pavilion was to be able to patch into the audio board to tie in sound for the auctions that were broadcast live on the web. We conducted pre-event audio and video checks with the event organizer to ensure the sound in the live feed was clear and loud enough.
After the event, the feedback we received was that it was the best it’s ever sounded and watchers were pleased that were finally able to hear what was being said at the event!

Back in the main tent at the County Fair, daytime acts included Wild Man Phil’s Live Animal Show. Phil wore a wireless mic as he presented various animals for the crowd to see.

Later in the evening, Tim Sullivan used a handheld wireless mic to teach some line dance moves to the crowd prior to his band playing. Our audio engineer was able to eliminate any feedback that sometimes occurs when a microphone is used in front of large speakers, which allowed everyone in the crowd to clearly hear Sullivan’s directions for dance steps.

There was a great dance crowd at the late-night events and the bands put on quite a show!
